Founded in June of 2007 by Crates Media (cratesmedia.com), Athames.com LLC has one simple goal: to support the pagan community.

Here's something you should know about us:
Believe it or not, we didn't get into this business just to make money, and we certainly don't expect to "make it big"... at least, not by "Amazon" or "Facebook" standards for dot-com businesses. What we're really concerned with the most is making sure that our customers have a place where they can go, again and again, for the best prices on the highest quality products for use in practicing whatever religion they choose.

We pride ourselves in keeping an open, inviting community for our patrons, where they can interact socially and share their thoughts and opinions on our products. Don't like something for some reason? We don't expect you to just phone in a complaint to some offshore service department... you can contact us directly-- on our cell phones, desk phones, whatever-- and talk to real, live people in the US about your problem. We work long hours to accommodate as many time zones and countries as possible, and employ a multi-lingual staff.

Moreover, you can tag products, comment about them on Facebook, and interact right on our website without waiting for moderation to be heard.

Why is it that we seek out a different path?
Why start the search in the first place?

One of the first things that people notice about someone who has chosen an "alternative" or "non-western" religion is that it makes you seem different, and usually in a good way. It can be unnerving, disarming, charming or unsettling, depending on the beliefs of the observer... but there's no question about it: we're different from the rest.

As soon as you start to immerse yourself into the Wiccan, Pagan, Zen Buddhist, Kabbalist, or Shamanic culture-- really, any faith that encourages you to challenge and revise your beliefs as your experience grows-- you start to notice a quietude, a stillness, a calmness and happiness in life that many are simply never able to attain in this lifetime. We see it in ourselves, and in the people around us, and suddenly we find ourselves surrounded by open-minded, loving, happy people who want to see us grow and thrive as human beings.

This is the allure of the "alternative" religious lifestyle. Most of us see God (or Goddess) in the universe, or at the least, a divine power that has helped to form all of this complexity in a universe of seemingly infinite chaos and entropy. It's this divine providence that brings us together, and that makes us feel whole.

That's why we're here: to connect, first and foremost, with like-minded people. We love being around you guys; we've been doing that since long before we founded this community. This just gives us a chance to take something we love and commit to it as our full-time lifestyle.

If you're just getting here for the first time: WELCOME! It's okay to be a little unsure, at first. We promise we won't bite. Despite what you might've been told, we're not the bogeymen... we are definitely the good guys. =)

So... what comes next for Athames.com?

We're just getting started. This summer (as of the time of this writing; summer 2012) will be our first year getting out there and setting up vendor booths at all of our favorite conventions and renaissance fairs: Earthstock, Wormtown, Strangecreek, King Arthur's Faire, King Richard's Faire, and many more. We've invested a TON of money into getting the website to run nice and smooth, with a positive user experience and lots of features. We've also dumped a ton of dough into marketing materials to get the word out about our new store (even though we've been in business for almost five years now!)

Perhaps most importantly, we've slashed our prices on just about every one of our products-- over seven thousand items in total-- to undercut all of the competition in pricing (sorry, competing stores). We're not expecting to turn any profit this year because we want you guys to know that you can rely on us for quality customer service and a good user experience on our site... and what better way to get the word out than a giant sale? We haven't decided yet how long the site-wide discounts will last, but it will continue at least through Q1 of 2012 (and possibly all the way through June!) After that, we promise to keep offering discounts as low as we can, wherever we can, to help you guys out as much as possible when comparing pricing.
